Fat people, hardened women, pissed off hippies

Let me go over something right here. Once again, these are things that I see, not what I think. I see a lot of fat people walking around New York City – men and women. I’d have to go with a strong 40%. That’s what I see.

Something I don’t see is old, fat people. I think it’s because you can’t be fat and old. Like I think you’ll die. So, I know what’s going to happen 10-20 years from now. I see these things from outside everyday taking pictures. I even photographed a lot of fat people for the website.

Anyway, another thing I see – I see a lot of women 30 to 40 walking quickly, smoking a cigarette. There’s a large percentage of them. I’m thinking these are women who’ve been through three or four troubled relationships with men. They’re unapproachable, they’re like shell-shocked. I see this in the Village and Soho more.

There’s a lot of that hippie type girl walking down the street just pissed off. I just don’t notice it in the guys but I’m sure they’re out there just as much.

I want to talk about the photography yesterday. I stood in front of Jack’s 99 Cent Store, that’s the biggest 99 cent store I think in the world. It’s like two giant supermarkets – first and second floor. I shop there myself sometimes. Unbelievable deals for 99 cents.

But there’s a lot of older people that go there. I guess they have a fixed income and they pack up their little carts with 10, 20, 30 items. It’s funny because the food there is excellent but it expires in the next day or in two days.

I just stand out there. There’s an entrance on 32nd and one on 31st. I just photographed the people that are going in. I’m trying to cover every category of people in New York. I’ll never get every person but I surely can get most of the categories.

Signing off.
