There’s a lid for every pot

Good morning, the day before Halloween.

Saturday night – that’s tonight. But Friday night, a lot of parties all over the city. So I’ve got to photograph a lot of people with costumes coming into the city – all the girls with their playboy bunny outfits and their sexy outfits. These are outfits that girls from Jersey and Queens or Brooklyn are wearing in the city without being embarrassed. Even though some of those outfits I’ve seen during the year.

A great day for photography yesterday, Friday. People leave at work early, people running around, moving much quicker to get home.

But what I want to talk about is a phrase that my uncle used to tell me – my uncle Joey, great uncle Joey. As we used to stand in front of the bar in Key West and see a very strange couple, he would say, “There’s a lid for every pot,” perhaps which means that for every pot in the world which is a person, there’s a lid to go on top of it – boyfriend, girlfriend.

You can see the most screwed up looking guy with the most screwed up looking girl – these people met each other and they’re the perfect couple or Mr. and Mrs. Handsome. Whatever it is, I’ve been studying couples.

So there have been a lot of photography of couples – it could be holding hands, it could be next to each other, it could be on vacation walking slowly, looking at the stores. But believe me, in New York City the people there – no matter how screwed up you look or how screwed up you are in the head, you’ll find that perfect soul mate – a lid for every pot. That conversation’s dedicated to my great uncle Joey.

Anyway, I am geared up for tonight. I’m going to Brooklyn RoSal, an Italian restaurant that’s having a big party there. It’s a catered party by some Black group of people. But they’re also doing upstairs – they’re going to rent out the top for a movie, some kind of mafia movie they’re doing. I’m going to get a chance to hang out there. There should be party downstairs, photography upstairs. I’m excited.

So I’ll be in Brooklyn tonight. Oh yes, I moved locations. I’ve started today back on 31st and 6th Avenue. I’m going to take a break from 7th Avenue, people there are really getting uptight. Like I said, I’m getting a lot of friends, getting a lot of people pissed off. Time to move for a while. So I’ll be there the month of November.

Signing off.
